Hair Stories: To Shave Or Not To Shave

It used to be that the ultimate hairstyle statement for a woman was to shave your head bald (or close), but these days celebs have put their own twist on the avant-garde style. If your not sure that you, or your head shape, can pull off a completely shaved look, ease yourself into the style by going partially bald first. Cue Cassie Ventura, Lala Vasquez, Keyshia Cole, Raven Symone and the pioneer Kelis. They've all put their unique interpretation of the style by adding hair dye, patterns, track lines and even ultra girly curls on the side of the head still with hair.

If you're going to try this style be prepared. Stock up on bobby pins to stop your long sided hair from falling across the border. Also, invest in a good pomade to keep your shaved side neat and frizz free. As always, keep your hair healthy with a good conditioner like Carol's Daughter's Tui Leave-in and Creme of Nature's moisturizing shampoo. So come on ladies, do Grace Jones proud and get the clippers out!

  2. I had no idea that Keyshia Cole shaved her head on one side..even though this is profile pic I'm sure she still looks pretty darn hot! I don't think I could do it but good luck to those that do:)

    I shaved my head on one side while it was relaxed,and hen slowly let it go natural. I live in portland and now the hairstyle is really popular in hipster culture...then I was like this is played and every body has it,so I shaved all my hair and got some sexy designs down the side.

    i shaved the side of head just one side when i was 13 im 15 now and had black leopard with a pink background on the side and my hair was pink lasted about 2 months, than i went to shaving both sides again and got a Mohawk, i gotta say i loved it bcz it suited me well. But not i got like long hair curtsy of my rents who wont let me do anything to it anymore. but that change very soon =] im think of the side shaved again and something new.

    Actually that girl from New Young Pony Club was rocking this since 2006. Kelis has said she is a fan so it is probably safe to say she took that style for herself but didn't pioneer it.

    i loooove this haircut and i almost missed it ! i've only seen one person with it and im totally inspired ... but why are people so judging when it comes to losing a little hair ? i like the idea about doing something crazy to ur hair ... but my boyfriend would hate it haha

    i recently shaved the right side of my head and am 13. i got a heart on the side and its red. some people may not like it but it really doesnt matter what they think i feel beautiful inside and out.
