There's still time people! Though the sun has started to rear it's head, we can still get a few good weeks of body toning exercise in before our summer vacay. With obesity among African American women at an all time high, there's no excuse for not squeezing in 3 half an hour workouts into your week. To brighten up a mundane workout session you can do at least one of two things: 1.) find something active that you love doing and doesn't feel like exercise (salsa, hip hop aerobics, yoga); 2.) look fabulous doing it! That's where I come in. Scroll down to get some ideas on how to look cute whilst in a sweaty funk!!

I know that's right. I try to walk 30 minutes every other day and moderate what and how much I eat.

I take salsa lessons every week (I work up a sweat, but it's so much fun that it doesn't feel like a workout). I have a hard time making time in my schedule for exercise, so paying for a 2-month block of salsa classes is good motivation to show up.

I also squeeze in walks whenever I can. Sometimes, all I can manage is getting off the bus 1/2 mile early. But when time and weather allow, I'll walk home from school or work (~3 miles from where I live). I just try to make it a policy to walk wherever I can (I live in Chicago). Instead of meeting a friend for coffee, we'll go for a walk together. Instead of getting produce at the local grocery store, I walk a mile each way to the farmer's market on Saturday mornings in the summer. I lost 60lbs. just by walking and eating better. I'm stalled at my current weight though (with more to lose!) so I'm looking for more ideas.

thesciencegirl I've been thinking of starting salsa but don't know if I would be any good at it! I may try yoga again but I need to find a good instructer/class. If anybody knows any in the D.C. area let me know!

Personal, I love Pilates and Yoga because they work your core which can lead to a nice tight flat tummy.

But my all time favorite has got to be Pole/Belly dancing. It's an all over sexy workout that helps women feel good about themselves.

The S Factor has locations all over the US. But you can find classes at the gym or in dance studio. I love Diva Fit in No. Va.
